MEME invites you to experience the work of Mexican artist and curator Martin Renteria.
This piece is part of a series of performances focused on exploring the possibilities of intuition and their relation to one’s senses and surroundings.
Maraña de Espacios Vacios 3 (Entanglement of Empty Spaces 3) is a metaphoric piece on perception in which distorted vision disturbs, disarranges, and fractures one’s interpretation of the artist’s immediate --reality and thus the final outcome of his actions.
STATEMENT: Rituals are something essential in the daily life of human beings, the mechanisms and languages of the ceremonies will always be present like fundamental parts of social organization and communication.
In my performances I look to create special rituals using common objects, this way taking out of context this objects and taking them to a level of icons. To this objects I give a strong symbolic charge inside a ritual ceremony in which the exploration of the spaces and time and body are catalyze in a rite and become a extension or an echo of temporal elements. Such ceremonies provoke a truthful result of catharsis in the protagonist.
The spectator in my performances identifies daily basis objects and situations posed in very different manners. This way the spectator is pushed consciously or unconsciously to use its imagination in different ways, breaks schemes and create all kind of interpretations or stories about the many different possibilities of the one same reality...my performance.
BIO: With many years of professional career in contemporary art, the quality of his work has lead him to represent Mexico in international festivals in Spain, USA, Italy, Slovakia, Canada, Argentina, Hungary, Finland, China, where he was curator of the OPEN International Peformance Art festival for the last two years, and Mexico, where he is founder of TRANSMUTED International Performance Art Festival.
This multidisciplinary artist has found in sculpture, painting, installation, performance art, such as spectacular wearable art and machines of his own design, a proper language which express his vision of the world.
The prodigious of his art, take roots in the profundity of an in force lecture, that talk about the reality we run through nowadays as a society and as persons.
Starting from the body, Martin Renteria creates rituals, where actions, objects and atmospheres provoke all kind of interpretations of the same reality. He plays with universal concepts such as space, power, balance, time, uncertainty, human being essence and the urgency for establish genuine relationships, by means of symbols that causes reactions and reflections in every spectator.
Concerned with evolution, Renteria´s work, invites us to analyze present time from which emanates questions about the soul and planet´s destination, and to undertake ways towards higher conscience levels.

Esta pieza es parte de una seria de performances enfocadas a explorar en diversas formas las posibilidades de la intuición y su relación a los sentidos y el entorno.
Maraña de Espacios Vacios 3, es una pieza metafórica sobre la percepción, donde la visión distorsionada, trastorna, descompone y fractura la interpretación de la realidad inmediata del artista y por lo tanto el resultado final de sus acciones.
Statement: El ritual es algo esencial en la vida cotidiana del hombre; los lenguajes de la ceremonia y el protocolo siempre están presentes como partes fundamentales de la comunicación y organización social.
En mis acciones busco crear rituales utilizando objetos de uso cotidiano, los cuales trato de descontextualizar para otorgarles metaforicamente una intensa carga simbolica, producto de esta ceremonia ritual.
El Cuerpo funciona como la parte catalizadora en la exploración de los elementos físicos, espaciales y temporales de dicha ceremonia. Esto provoca en el protagonista verdaderos estados de catarsis orillando finalmente al espectador, consciente y subconcientemente, a crear toda clase de interpretaciones sobre las distintas posibilidades de una misma realidad.
BIO: Con una trayectoria muy extensa en la escena del arte de vanguardia, la calidad de su trabajo lo ha llevado a representar a México en festivales internacionales en España, Grecia, EU, Italia, Eslovaquia, Canadá, Argentina, Hungría, Finlandia, y China, donde fue curador general po los últimos tres años, del festival de performance más grande en la historia, el OPEN International Performance Art Festival. Actualmente es fundador y presidente del festival internacional de performance Transmuted México.
Artista multidisciplinario que ha encontrado en la escultura, la pintura, la instalación y el performance, así como con espectaculares vestuarios y máquinas de sus propios diseños, un lenguaje propio que expresa su visión del mundo.
Lo prodigioso de su arte, radica en la profundidad de un discurso vigente, que habla de la realidad que atravesamos hoy como sociedad y como individuos.
A partir del cuerpo, crea rituales, donde acciones, objetos y atmósferas dan lugar a toda clase de interpretaciones de una misma realidad. Juega con conceptos universales como el espacio, el poder, el equilibrio, el tiempo, la incertidumbre, la esencia del ser y la urgencia por establecer relaciones verdaderas, mediante símbolos que provocan reacciones y reflexiones en el espectador.
Comprometido con la evolución, su trabajo nos invita a analizar el presente desde el que emanan cuestionamientos sobre el devenir del espíritu y del planeta, y a emprender caminos hacia niveles superiores de conciencia.
